FAQs
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a cosmetic tattoo technique to superficially apply hair-like strokes to the eyebrows using a grouping of needles. It is a semi-permanent technique and is not as invasive as a regular tattoo. Microblading allows you to achieve fuller looking brows with more structure and can add definition while reducing the time spent filling them in with makeup daily.
What is Combo Brow?
Combo brow service combines microblading with manual or machine shading. Shading can add more density to the brows to make them appear fuller, and help blend the microblading with the real hair. Combo brows are good for those who have few natural brow hairs, very sparse brows, or those who prefer a more filled in makeup look.
The amount and density of the shading can be custom tailored to meet each clients desired results. It can be very soft & natural or can be more saturated for those who prefer a more filled in make-up look.
Who is a good candidate for cosmetic tattooing?
With the small exception, almost anyone is a good candidate for microblading (above the age of 18). It is not recommended for anyone who is sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised, taking prescription blood thinners, taking medication for acne (Accutane), those who keloid, diabetics, or have recently had any facial treatments (within 72 hours).
If you have concerns whether or not microblading is right for you contact Jillian for a free consultation.
How long is the process?
For cosmetic tattoos, the entire appointment will take around 2-2.5 hours (freckles about 1 hour). This includes the time to register, map the design, apply numbing solution, and the procedure itself. Touch-up appointments are usually quicker since the mapping has already been done.
These are just estimates and it can vary from client to client.
Are cosmetic tattoos permanent?
Cosmetic tattooing is not meant to be permanent. The pigment used is designed to fade over time and will need to be touched up if you desire to maintain the look of your new brows, lips, or freckles.
Cosmetic tattoos can last up to 2 years depending on various factors. Some people will need to have touch-ups at 1 year while others may need to a little sooner, while lip blush and freckles typically don’t need frequent touch-ups. It really depends on the person.
There are steps you can take to ensure that your cosmetic tattoo does not fade quickly. Sun exposure, tanning, and exfoliating facial treatments can accelerate the fading process and avoiding these will help to prevent fading prematurely.
What is Lip Blush?
Lip blush tattoo adds just a flush of color to the lips and heals similar to tinted lip balm. Lip blush tattoo can help lips appear fuller and help to define the lip line. A tattoo machine is used to create lip blush and depending on clients skincare and healing can last up to 2 years.
Healing is quick & easy! Lips may appear slightly chapped during the healing time and will appear healed within 3-5 days.
It is important to note that if you carry the cold sore virus you need to preemptively take medication 2-3 weeks before & after appointment to try and prevent an outbreak during the healing process. You should consult your physician if you have any questions.
Do I need a touch-up session?
For regular machine tattoos it is not always necessary to receive touch-ups. If you have any places where the pigment fell out during the healing process then you can contact your artist for a touch-up.
For cosmetic tattoos like Microblading & Lip Blush, it is a two-step process and it is recommended to have at least one touch up 6-12 weeks following your initial session. This is necessary to build up the brows & lip color and correct for any loss of pigment retention.
Depending on desired results additional sessions may be required.
How do I take care of my tattoo?
After your service we will go over everything you need to know on how to care for your new tattoo and also send you home with the information and supplies needed.
It is important that you follow the aftercare instructions so that you heal properly for best results. Failure to follow aftercare steps can lead to less desirable results and possibly require another session that is not included in the original price.
You can find instructions for aftercare here.
Do you fix or do corrective work?
Jillian currently only does corrective work on clients if approved. If you have previously had microblading or cosmetic tattooing please contact Jillian to set up a consultation. This is to make sure that we can achieve the best results and manage expectations.
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
A topical numbing solution is used throughout the process to provide the client with the most amount of comfort possible. There is a minimal amount of discomfort during the procedure.
What kind of results can I expect?
Everyone heals differently! There are many factors that can effect how the healing process goes. All clients are informed on the proper aftercare to ensure the best possible healed results.
Nothing can be guaranteed and some clients may require additional sessions outside of the initial touch-up depending on their skin or their desired results.
